The military logistics of the Russian Federation have encountered a significant problem, as revealed by British intelligence

Sabotage activities on railways continue in Russia

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, an increasing number of railway sabotages have occurred on Russian territory, posing a significant challenge to Russian military logistics, which heavily relies on rail transportation.

As of October, at least 137 individuals who engaged in railway sabotage in Russia have faced legal action. This information was reported by the UK Ministry of Defense, citing intelligence data.

The British defense ministry recalled that the first acts of sabotage, committed by "anti-war activists," were reported in Russia at the outset of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Seventeen months into the conflict, railway sabotage continues to present a serious challenge for the occupying power.

According to Russian media journalists, as of October, 76 cases of railway sabotage have been brought to court, resulting in legal action against at least 137 Russians. Most of these individuals are under the age of 24.

Furthermore, Russia has sought to combat railway saboteurs through intimidation. Since the beginning of 2023, warnings have been stenciled onto key Russian rail infrastructure facilities, indicating that Russian law prescribes severe penalties, including life imprisonment, for acts of sabotage.

The reason for these measures is the aggressor state's military logistics, which still relies on the country's 33,000 kilometers of railway lines, including support for the war in Ukraine. With almost all open forms of dissent banned in Russia, sabotage remains an attractive method of protest against the "Special Military Operation," as noted by the British Ministry of Defense.

Earlier, British intelligence described the aftermath of the strike on the corvette Askold in the occupied Kerch. The attack on November 4 within the territory of the Zaliv shipyard in the eastern part of the temporarily occupied Crimea signifies that Ukraine is now capable of targeting areas previously beyond its reach.

For Russia, this means that the occupiers will need to consider relocating the Crimean shipbuilding infrastructure and ships farther from the front lines, leading to delays in the delivery of new vessels.
