German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has reiterated that there is "no need" to make a decision on inviting Ukraine to NATO. He emphasized that he has no plans to change his position on Ukraine becoming a member of the Alliance while the war is ongoing on its territory.

At the same time, the head of the German government assured that Berlin would remain one of the largest suppliers of military aid to the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Scholz made this statement at a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Berlin on November 4, Ukrinform reports.

According to him, there is currently "no need" to make new decisions on Ukraine's membership in NATO, in particular regarding the invitation to Ukraine.

"We made decisions in Vilnius and Washington that are well suited to the current situation. I think there is no need for new decisions in this regard because the situation has not changed since we made those decisions," the German Chancellor said.

He emphasized that Ukraine's partners should now focus on ensuring that the country has enough weapons to continue to fight the invasion of the Russian occupiers. This is especially true in the context of Russia's involvement of DPRK troops in the war against Ukraine.

"It is now important to make sure that Ukraine does not run out of weapons," he said.

Scholz also recalled that the G7 countries decided to provide a $50 billion loan to Kyiv at the expense of profits from frozen Russian assets, and noted that Ukraine would be able to use the money to purchase new weapons.

On October 24, Scholz told a German TV channel that he saw no need to make a decision on inviting Ukraine to NATO. According to him, a country at war cannot join the Alliance.

Thus, Scholz rejected the first point of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Victory Plan.

In addition, he rejected other points of the plan, which Zelenskyy presented at the EU summit on October 17. He explained his position by his fears of further escalation.

"We are responsible for ensuring that the war between Russia and Ukraine does not turn into a war between Russia and NATO," the German chancellor said.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Olaf Scholz is not against India's mediation in the political settlement of Russia's war against Ukraine. He called on New Delhi to support a "lasting and just peace".
