Spain to provide Ukraine with a new aid package worth 55 million euros: what it will include

Additional support was announced by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez

Spain will provide Ukraine with an aid package worth EUR 55 million to finance businesses and provide Ukrainian schools with clean energy systems. In addition, Madrid will provide the Ukrainian army with four more Leopard tanks, armoured personnel carriers and a portable field hospital with surgical equipment.

This was announced on 1 July by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez during his visit to Kyiv. According to him, the decision to allocate additional funds to Ukraine was made today.

In particular, EUR 51 million will be provided through the World Bank Group to finance Ukrainian small and medium-sized enterprises, and another EUR 4 million will be provided through the United Nations Development Programme to provide schools with environmentally friendly and sustainable energy systems.

"The Spanish government will support the financing of the necessary investments to adapt and modernise Ukraine's infrastructure and production sectors," Sánchez said in his speech to the Verkhovna Rada.

The Spanish prime minister added that Ukraine's recovery will require time and investment in many sectors. Spain is keen to support Ukraine, particularly in the railway sector, where Spanish companies have certain know-how.

In addition, during a press conference with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Sánchez said that Spain would provide Ukraine with additional Leopard tanks, armoured personnel carriers, and a portable field hospital with surgical equipment.

"This element should strengthen Ukraine's ability to provide assistance to wounded soldiers and civilians near the front line," the politician said.
