Russian troops hit a hotel and an apartment building in the center of Kharkiv: there are many wounded. All details
A series of explosions occurred in Kharkiv around 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, when an air alert was declared in the region due to the threat of ballistic missile attacks. The enemy struck a residential building and a hotel in the city center, and there was also damage to civilian infrastructure. There is preliminary information on 26 victims, including children.
A journalist from the UK was also wounded. The man is currently in hospital, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said during the TV marathon.
Rescuers extinguished several fires at the sites of the hits, including in a two-story building with an area of 100 square meters. Eight people were evacuated and first aid was provided to the victims, the SES reported.
Three children are known to be among the injured, the agency said. A total of 59 rescuers and 10 units of equipment are involved.
For his part, the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, said that one of the Russian strikes destroyed a kindergarten. According to him, a total of 11 women and 10 men were wounded.
Among them are two children aged 14 and 16. Eleven people were hospitalized: their condition is light to moderate. There is no threat to the lives of the victims, he said.
As of 22:18, the Kharkiv regional prosecutor's office reported 26 victims.
"A security adviser to the German media team, a British citizen, was injured. Nine of the victims were treated on the spot," the agency said.
Previously, the enemy fired at the city from the territory of the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation with S-300 missiles.
According to Syniehubov, the 12th floor of the Kharkiv Palace hotel was hit. After the first hits, people managed to go down to the shelter, so only two people were slightly injured.
A foreign journalist has shrapnel wounds to his chest. A woman was also wounded in the hotel. Both were hospitalized, Viktor Zabashta, director of the regional emergency medical center, told Suspilne.
In addition, the Ministry of Health said that the buildings of three medical institutions in Kharkiv were damaged by missiles. Preliminary, none of the patients and medical staff of the hospitals were injured.
"We can say for sure that there was a chaotic attack on the city. Without any targeting, with the aim of harming the local population," Volodymyr Tymoshko, the head of the Kharkiv police, told GwaraMedia.
In addition to the center of Kharkiv, three hits were recorded in the Industrial district. All of them hit the ground, he told Suspilne. There were no injuries as a result of these strikes.
Pre-trial investigations into the violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) under the procedural control of the Shevchenkivskyi and Kyiv District Prosecutor's Offices of Kharkiv have been initiated.
It should be noted that as of 20:23, the mayor of Kharkiv reported 14 injured, and at 20:30: 16 injured. Later, the number of injured increased to 17.
"A missile hit a residential building in the city center. Serious destruction, fire...There is also destruction of civilian infrastructure," Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said as of 19:44.
In turn, the Kharkiv police reported that, according to preliminary data, four people were injured. All specialized services arrived at the scene: medics, rescuers, and law enforcement. At 19:56, the head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, informed about eight injured.
"At the moment, medics are providing assistance to 8 victims, all of them are hospitalized, 4 people are in moderate condition, 4 are in light condition. The occupants attacked the central part of Kharkiv. There is damage to civilian infrastructure: a medical facility, apartment buildings, shops and other public places, and transportation. Only civilian infrastructure!" the statement said.
As of 20:05, there is no information about the dead, Viktor Zabashta, director of the regional emergency medical center, told Suspilne. According to him, medics took two wounded people from one of the civilian buildings in the center of Kharkiv, which was hit. Several people who were nearby at the time of the explosions were taken from a residential building, they had light injuries.
For his part, Kharkiv regional prosecutor Oleksandr Filchakov confirmed the attack on the hotel in the central part of the city. And Terekhov said that the first missile hit the hotel, and the second one hit a residential building in the center.
There are many victims, but fortunately, everyone is alive. People will be resettled now, the mayor said.
At 18:59, Terekhov reported the first explosion, and by 19:04, there had been at least five explosions. According to Suspilne TV, at least six explosions occurred in Kharkiv.
For his part, Syniehubov urged residents to take shelter because of enemy shelling.
"Attention, residents of Kharkiv and the region! Stay in shelters. The occupiers are striking!" he said as of 19:01.
Later, Syniehubov said that the occupiers had struck more than six times, in particular, they hit the central part of Kharkiv. The hits caused damage to civilian infrastructure. Specialized services are working at the sites of the hits, the head of the RMA informed.
The air alert in Kharkiv and several other regions was announced at 18:55. "Attention! Poltava, Kharkiv, Sumy, Dnipro regions: threat of ballistic weapons use!" the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
