Russian army tasked to capture Chasiv Yar before May 9 - Syrskyi
Russia's top military leadership has set a task for its troops to capture Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region by May 9. In order to respond to the enemy's actions and strengthen the defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this area, the Ukrainian command has taken measures to significantly reinforce the brigades with ammunition, drones and electronic warfare equipment.
This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi. According to him, the occupants are also concentrating their efforts to break through the Ukrainian defense to the west of Bakhmut, gain access to the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas Canal and create conditions for further advancement to the Kramatorsk agglomeration.
"The enemy's plans are being hampered by the heroic defense of our brigades, who have literally dug themselves into the ground, holding off daily attacks. Using their numerical superiority and various motivational factors, including executions, some enemy infantry groups reached the Novyi neighborhood but were destroyed by FPV-drone strikes and artillery fire," the chief noted.
He clarified that he had been working in an important and dangerous area of the frontline for two days. The Defense Forces are currently working to improve the quality of training, including the moral and psychological component of the troops. The command is focused on increasing the number of high-tech unmanned systems for various purposes with trained operators, improving the quality of asymmetric actions to reduce the combat potential of the Russian army.
Syrskyi added that the Armed Forces continue to carry out organizational measures with a focus on improving management efficiency, eliminating duplication, and directing the released resources to support combat units.
"The main task of these measures is to increase the combat capability of our troops, save the lives of our soldiers, disrupt the enemy's plans, and ensure the training of reserves. The fight is ongoing! Glory to Ukraine!" the Colonel-General emphasized.
As reported, former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Lieutenant General Ihor Romanenko expressed his belief that Russia's immediate plan is to attack Chasiv Yar and Pokrovsk. Then, according to him, the enemy may try to attack in the direction of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region.
