Russia used Tu-95 to launch missiles on Ukraine for the first time in almost 80 days: air defense worked in Kyiv region, there is a victim in Dnipropetrovsk region

On the morning of Friday, December 8, an air raid alert was declared in most regions of Ukraine due to a missile threat from the Russian Federation. For the first time in almost 80 days, the enemy used Tu-95MS strategic bombers to launch cruise missiles.

This was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, urging Ukrainians to take shelter. Subsequently, air defense forces were working in the regions, shooting down about 14 of the 19 targets, but there was a hit in the Dnipro region, with casualties reported.

According to monitoring Telegram channels, a total of nine enemy Tu-95MS aircraft launched several groups of missiles. The first of them entered Ukrainian airspace from the east.

Thus, as of 06:50, the alert spread to all eastern and southern regions, as well as the center of the country.

"The first group of missiles is in the Kharkiv region in the direction of the Dnipropetrovsk region (Dnipro/Pavlohrad). The course may change. Do not ignore the air raid alert," the Ukrainian Air Force said.

The Telegram channel "Nikolayevsky Vaniok" reported that the enemy launched missiles from the Engels area.

"Do not ignore the alarm, air defense will work against Russian missiles," the head of the Presidential Administration, Andrii Yermak, also addressed Ukrainians.

After 07:00, it was noted that Russian missiles changed direction to the west of Ukraine: they were recorded in Poltava and Kirovohrad regions. At the same time, explosions were reported in the Kharkiv region.

"Ukraine is under attack by missiles from Tu-95 strategic bombers for the first time in almost 80 days. Two groups of missiles entered the airspace from the east and are moving towards the northwest," said military correspondent Andrii Tsaplienko.

At this time, the missiles had already been detected in the Kyiv region, and the alarm spread to almost all of Ukraine. Air defense was operating on the outskirts of the capital.

According to some reports, air defense shot down two missiles on the approach to Kyiv.

After 08:20, air raid alerts ended. It was confirmed that the occupiers had launched cruise missiles at Ukraine from the area of Engels (Saratov region of the Russian Federation).

Consequences of the Russian missile attack

According to the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, not a single enemy target reached Kyiv. All missiles flying in the direction of the capital were destroyed on approach by air defense forces and means. There is no information on casualties or damage in the city. At the same time, private houses in several communities of the Kyiv region were damaged by falling debris of downed missiles.

Unfortunately, a hit was reported in Pavlohrad, Dnipropetrovsk region. One person was killed and four others were injured. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko clarified that the missile hit Pavlohrad.

"Do not ignore the warnings about the threat and stay in shelters in case of air alert!" he urged.

Yurii Ihnat, spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force, said that the enemy attack lasted in two waves. According to preliminary estimates, the occupiers launched 19 X-101 and X-555 cruise missiles. The air defense forces destroyed 14 targets.
