Russia launches 90 Shaheeds at Ukraine on New Year's Eve: air defense forces shoot down 87 drones

The aggressor country Russia attacked Ukraine on New Year's Eve, January 1, with a record number of Shahed kamikaze drones - 90 of them. However, the defenders of the sky shot down most of them - 87 targets.

This was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is noted that the attack was carried out in waves from four directions: Cape Chauda, Balaklava (Crimea), Kursk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russia).

In most regions of Ukraine, an air alert was declared along the route of the drones, and air defense was practically in place in all of them. In particular, the air attack was repelled by mobile firing groups of the Defense Forces, fighter aircraft and anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force.

Thus, on New Year's Eve, the defenders of the sky managed to destroy a record number of enemy attack UAVs - 87 out of 90. In particular, 51 drones were destroyed in the area of responsibility of the Southern Defense Forces (28 in Odesa region, 14 in Mykolaiv region, five in Vinnytsia region, two in Dnipro region, and one each in Kherson and Kirovohrad regions). Three Shakhtys were also neutralized in Cherkasy region.

In addition to the launch of nine dozen attack UAVs, on January 1, the enemy also struck Kharkiv region with four S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles, and from the temporarily occupied territories of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, the occupiers fired three X-31P and one X-59 anti-radar missiles at Ukraine.

"Many thanks to everyone for their combat work! A year ago, on New Year's Eve, the defenders of the sky destroyed 45 Shaheds. Today - 87. Let's hold the sky! Together - to victory!" said Mykola Oleshchuk, Commander of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

We should note that as a result of this Russian attack, housesin Odesa caught fire and a man was killed. In other regions , there were no casualties. In particular, in Odesa region , the port infrastructure was damaged. A museum in Lviv and a university in Dublin were also destroyed.

A hit was recorded on an enterprise in Dnipropetrovs'k region. In Mykolaiv region, a hit to an infrastructure facility caused a massive fire. In the Tulchyn district of Vinnytsia region, the wreckage of a downed Shahed damaged a garage and the windows of several houses. In the Cherkasy region , a drone shot down caused minor damage to a local resident's house.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on the night of December 31, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 21 of 49 Russian kamikaze drones launched by the occupiers from three directions. Unfortunately, there were hits in Kherson, Odesa, and Kharkiv regions.
