May enter into combat in the coming days: the US confirms the presence of 10 thousand DPRK troops in Kursk region

DPRK military personnel

About 10 thousand military personnel from North Korea are stationed in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. They "may enter the battle in the coming days".

This was stated on Monday, November 4, by US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller at a briefing. Thus, Washington has confirmed that the number of mercenaries from the DPRK in Kursk region has increased.

On October 31, the United States reported that Russia had deployed about 8,000 North Koreans to the area.

"The Secretary of State said (last week - Ed.) that about 8,000 North Korean troops were sent to the Kursk region. We now estimate that about 10,000 have gone there and may engage in combat in the coming days," Miller said.

He reiterated America's "concern" over the strengthening of the military partnership between Russia and the DPRK.

Miller also acknowledged that Washington had seen media reports about the participation of DPRK units in military operations. He cannot currently officially confirm this information on behalf of the United States. But if the North Korean military does fight on the side of Russia, they will become a legitimate target of attack.

As a reminder, in his evening address on November 4, President Volodymyr Zelensky also reported on the growing number of North Koreans in the Kursk region of Russia. According to him, there are already 11 thousand of them there. He cited Ukrainian intelligence data.

"We see an increase in North Koreans, we do not see an increase in the reaction of our partners. Unfortunately," the head of state emphasized.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the media named the military training grounds where Russians are training DPRK militants for war. The locations are located in the Khabarovsk and Primorsky Krai, as well as in the Amur region of the aggressor country.
