Lubinets appealed to the Red Cross and the UN over the killing of Ukrainian soldiers who surrendered by the occupiers

Lubinets appealed to the ICRC and the UN over the shooting of Ukrainian soldiers by the occupiers

Ukrainian Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets appealed to the Red Cross and the UN Monitoring Mission regarding the shooting of Ukrainian soldiers who surrendered by the Russian occupiers. At the same time, he admitted that he did not expect "any breakthrough results" from these organizations.

This was reported by Suspilne. The Ombudsman emphasized that this is not the first time that Russian war criminals have cynically violated the Geneva Conventions.

Despite the lack of an effective response from the organizations, Lubinets is convinced that Ukraine should continue to send appeals, because the ICRC has a unique mandate to record violations of the rights of prisoners of war. Therefore, it should communicate with the Russian Federation, respond to such cases and do everything to change the situation.

Lubinets noted that for all the time that Ukraine, as defined by international law, has been in the midst of a "Russian-Ukrainian international military conflict," the Red Cross has done nothing to respond to the violations committed by the Russian Federation.

Regarding the appeal to the UN, the Ombudsman explained that the monitoring mission of this organization is constantly on the territory of Ukraine and records all the facts of crimes, calling a spade a spade.

"That is, if Russia is shelling our cities, it is directly stated in the UN reports," Lubinets said.

"We hope that the issue of violation of the rights of Ukrainian citizens by the Russian Federation will be considered at the highest level, at various UN platforms: The Human Rights Committee, the General Assembly, the Security Council. We must continue to do this work," the Ombudsman said.

He also noted that he has no official information about the soldiers who were shot by the Russians.

As a reminder, Russian occupants committed another war crime in the Avdiivka sector. The invaders shot two Ukrainian soldiers who surrendered near the village of Stepove.

The enemy entered the positions of the 45th Separate Rifle Battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. While conducting a sweep, the Russians came to a dugout where Ukrainian soldiers were staying. Our soldiers were forced to surrender due to a lack of ammunition, but when a second Ukrainian soldier came out of the shelter, the Russians shot him and his comrade-in-arms who was lying on the ground.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

- The head of the Avdiivka city military administration, Vitalii Barabash, said that the Defense Forces had captured the positions where the execution of the Ukrainian military took place. All Russians who were on the positions and involved in the murder were killed.

- The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine has launched an investigation into the shooting of Ukrainian servicemen in the Avdiivka sector by the occupiers. Enemy soldiers opened fire on our defenders when they were unarmed and surrendered.
