ISW points to China's actions that completely destroy Beijing's peacemaker image in Ukraine war

Publicly, China pretends to be a peacekeeper, while privately, it supplies arms to Russia. We are talking about the transfer of Chinese military drones and a secret arms program in China to develop long-range strike drones for use in the war against Ukraine.

Russia also receives about 70% of machine tools and 90% of microelectronics for weapons production from China. This is described in a new analytical material of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The analysts cited a report by The Times that Western officials have discovered the supply of military drones to Russia by an unnamed company from China. They are supposed to be "tested" by the Russian military to determine whether they can be used on the battlefield in Ukraine.

This company signed a corresponding agreement with Russia in 2023 and, according to the West, there is "clear evidence that Chinese companies are supplying Russia with deadly weapons for use in Ukraine."

The Times' sources also confirm earlier reports of a secret Russian weapons program in China to develop long-range attack drones for use in Ukraine.

And Beijing's assistance to Moscow is not limited to this. As U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken noted on September 27, about 70% of machine tool imports to the Russian Federation and about 90% of microelectronics imported to the aggressor country come from China and Hong Kong. All of this is used by Russia to produce missiles, armored vehicles and ammunition.

In view of this, Blinken emphasized, China's statements are at odds with its actions: on the one hand, Beijing says it wants peace in Ukraine, but on the other hand, it allows Chinese companies to help Russian aggression against a neighboring state.

"The PRC has repeatedly attempted to depict itself as a neutral mediator in the war in Ukraine, and continued reports of PRC aid to Russia's war effort undermine this claim," ISW summarized.

Earlier, ISW said that the Kremlin is concerned about the discussion of allowing Ukraine to strike deeper into Russia. Therefore, the entire Kremlin elite, led by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, is trying to put pressure on the West to prevent the lifting of the restrictions.

And Russia is right to be worried. After all, even a small number of effective hits on military targets deep in Russia can have a very significant and not at all favorable impact on Moscow's ability to continue the war.
