War in Ukraine
In January, Russia incurred higher losses near Pokrovsk than in the entire Second Chechen War – "Khortytsia" operational-strategic group
In January 2025, the Russian occupation army lost about 15 thousand people in the Pokrovsk direction. Moreover, 7 thousand of them were irrecoverable losses.
Despite the huge losses of personnel, the Russians continue to actively storm the Pokrovsk direction. This was stated by Viktor Trehubov, spokesman for the "Khortytsia" operational and strategic grouping of troops, during a telethon.
According to him, in the first month of 2025, Ukrainian troops eliminated 7,000 occupants in the Pokrovsk direction. The number of wounded and missing persons is approximately the same.
At the same time, the occupiers do not stop their offensive in this area of the front. Every day, Russian troops carry out dozens of attacks in the Pokrovsk area. The Russians are trying to attack mainly to the south and southwest of the district center.
"The Second Chechen War for the Russians has resulted in 6,000 deaths. That is, the Russians have more dead in Pokrovsk alone in January than in the entire Second Chechen War," Trehubov said.
The representative of the "Khortytsia" unit emphasized that Putin's army is not slowing down and is throwing all its forces and reserves to capture Pokrovsk. According to Trehubov, if the enemy manages to cut off the routes leading to the city, at least from the west and southwest, it could indicate the success of the occupiers. However, to date, the enemy is not achieving its goal and is trying to gain a foothold in small settlements around Pokrovsk.
As a reminder, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have recently advanced in the Pokrovsk direction amid Russian offensive operations in the area. The successes of the defenders are confirmed by geolocation footage, while some of the progress claimed by the occupiers' propagandists is not supported by evidence.
Earlier it was reported that a whole group of Russian attack aircraft recently deserted from the occupiers' positions near Pokrovsk. In particular, at least eight occupiers – ex-convicts who served in the 1437th Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment of the Russian Army – fled from the front line.
