Holiday does not stop the war: the General Staff named the hottest combat areas on January 1

As of 16:00 on Wednesday, January 1, 101 combat engagements took place in the frontline since the beginning of the day. Ukraine's defenders are stopping the enemy, holding the line, and destroying the occupiers' plans.

The enemy continues to focus its efforts on the Kurakhove, Pokrovsk, and Vremivsk directions and in the Kursk region. This is stated in the operational summary of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The border towns and villages of our country suffer from Russian artillery shelling. Currently, Tymonovychi, Yanzhulivka, Karpovychi, Zaliznyi Mist, Mykolaivka in Chernihiv region, and Tymofiivka in Sumy region have been hit.

Situation on the front line on January 1, 2025

In the Kupiansk sector, the enemy has made three attempts to advance in the areas of Kolisnykivka, Zahryzove, and Nova Kruhliakivka since the beginning of the day.

In the Lyman sector, he also increased the number of attacks to six. They are attacking near Novoserhiivka, Tverdokhlibove, Kopanky, Makiivka, and Ivanivka.

In Kramatorsk, Ukrainian troops repelled nine attacks in the areas of Chasiv Yar, Stupochky, and Predtechyno. One battle is ongoing as of 16:00.

In the Toretsk sector, the enemy tried to advance five times in the area of Toretsk and the direction of Shcherbynivka. The battle continues.

The aggressor is also active in the Pokrovsk sector. Clashes of varying intensity started 17 times today. Hostile attacks were repelled in the areas of Vozdvyzhenka, Myroliubivka, Lysivka, Novyi Trud, Solone, Kotlyne, Pishchane, Pokrovsk, Novooleksiivka and Novovasylivka. Seven more firefights are ongoing.

Fierce fighting continued in the Kurakhove sector. There were 11 firefights near Ukrainka, Petropavlivka, and Kurakhove during the day, three hostile attacks are ongoing.

In the Vremivsk sector, the enemy attacked 12 times in the areas of Dachne, Kostiantynopil, Yantarne, Novosilka, Rozlyv and Novyi Komar, five of the battles are ongoing.

In the Orikhiv sector, one firefight took place in the vicinity of Novoandriivka since the beginning of the day, but the enemy did not succeed.

In the Prydniprovsk sector, Ukrainian troops successfully repelled one enemy attempt to push our defenders from their positions.

The enemy did not conduct any active hostilities in the Kharkiv, Huliaipole, and Siversk sectors since the beginning of the day, the report says.

In the Kursk region, the Defense Forces repelled 31 invaders' attacks, two are ongoing. In addition, the enemy launched one missile and nine air strikes, using seven missiles and 11 CABs, and fired 198 artillery shells at Ukrainian positions and settlements.

There were no significant changes in the situation in other sectors. Ukrainian defenders are exhausting the enemy along the entire front line and in the rear, the General Staff said.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the ISW suggested that Russian troops could switch their attention from Pokrovsk to another target. During the year, the occupiers' command mainly focused on capturing the rest of the Donetsk region and creating a buffer zone in the north of the Kharkiv region but failed to achieve this. In early fall, the occupiers shifted their attention to Pokrovsk, but did not make much progress there either, analysts said.
