HIMARS and Patriot missiles and much more: the U.S. announced a new $300 million military aid package for Ukraine
The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden said it had prepared a new military aid package for Ukraine, which is fighting a full-scale invasion by Russia and preparing for a counteroffensive. The new weapons package for the army includes ammunition for HIMARS, missiles for the Patriot air defense system, shells and much more.
The United States Department of Defense said this in a statement released on Wednesday, May 31. The cost of the aid is nearly $300 million.
The new package includes:
- ammunition for HIMARS;
- missiles for Patriot SAMs;
- AIM-7 anti-aircraft missiles;
- Zuni aircraft missiles;
- Avenger SAMs;
- Stinger MANPADS;
- 155mm and 105mm shells;
- 105 mm tank shells;
- AT4 grenade launchers;
- 30 million rounds of small arms ammunition;
- demining equipment;
- explosive ammunition for overcoming obstacles;
- night vision equipment.
"The United States will continue to work with partners to enable Ukraine to meet its battlefield and long-term security needs," the Pentagon stressed.
White House National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby, at a briefing in Washington, confirmed the provision of a new weapons package and reminded that the aggressor state Russia resorts to missile terror and shells Ukrainian cities with rockets and kamikaze drones, destroying civilian infrastructure.
"The United States will continue to support Ukraine," the White House spokesman stressed.
As OBOZREVATEL reported, a number of congressmen from the Republican Party are in favor of providing Ukraine with the weapons necessary for a successful counterattack as soon as possible, and many Democrats hold similar positions. Some US lawmakers believe that the Biden administration should give Ukraine F-16 fighter jets and long-range weapons.
