Explosion and fire reported in the port area of occupied Berdiansk

At the end of November 22, a powerful explosion occurred in the temporarily occupied Berdiansk, Zaporizhzhia region. According to preliminary data, it was the port that was targeted.

After the explosion, residents of Berdiansk saw fire, while those living in coastal areas smelled a burning odor. This was reported by the Berdiansk City Military Administration and the advisor to the mayor of Mariupol Petro Andriushchenko.

"The post encountered some problems. At about 23:40 Berdiansk residents heard a loud explosion. Preliminary, it was the port that was hit," the Berdiansk RMA said.

Some time before, Andriushchenko also wrote about a possible strike on the port area.

"Port of Berdiansk, how are you doing? Preliminary, it was hit!" he stated at 23:42.

In the morning, Andriushchenko provided a few more details about the overnight attack.

"At about 23:38 there was an explosion in the port area. After that, there was a fire that lasted up to half an hour. There was also a burning smell in the coastal areas of Berdiansk," he said.

The fact that there was a hit is evidenced by the complete silence about the night's events from the occupation administration of Berdiansk: they did not comment on the explosion that was heard in the city at all.

Local pro-Russian channels tried to save the day with the usual "air defense work."

However, in its traditional morning address on the "successes" of Russian Air Defense, the Russian Ministry of Defense mentions only one Ukrainian drone allegedly shot down over the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine (namely, over Crimea). The occupiers decided to leave the "downed target" over Berdiansk or anywhere else in the Azov Sea region alone.

According to the local media outlet Ria Melitopol, the fire could have been caused by burning fuel, which was probably what the Defense Forces tried to hit in the first place.

As a reminder, on the last day of October, the occupiers complained about a drone attack on Berdiansk too. The city's port was targeted, and, according to the collaborators, the Defense Forces were eager to hit "administrative buildings, local government and social security agencies."

Later, gunfire and explosions were heard in Berdiansk, and a fire broke out. The occupation administration issued an order to temporarily suspend the work of public institutions, including educational ones.
