The Government of Canada has decided not to send military instructors to Ukraine to train the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The country believes that it is not the right time for this.

This was stated by Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair during a conversation with journalists on Monday, June 17, Reuters reports. He emphasized that at a meeting of NATO defense ministers, the Allies discussed a mission that would involve strengthening the training of the Ukrainian military.

"We discussed the NATO mission to strengthen training. At the moment, the circumstances do not allow, in my opinion, to deploy Canadian instructors in Ukraine. I think there is an understandable concern about expanding the training mission in Ukraine," Blair said.

The publication reminded that since 2015, Canada has helped train more than 40,000 military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Shortly before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the country withdrew its training contingent from the western regions of Ukraine. The instructors moved to the UK and Poland to resume work with Ukrainian troops.

Earlier, Czech Defense Minister Jana Černohova said that her country would not send its instructors to Ukraine. They do not consider this necessary, as our country is not so far from the Czech Republic geographically, so the training of Ukrainian military will continue there.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

- French President Emmanuel Macron said that sending French instructors to Ukraine is an "effective and practical" step, as Kyiv "mobilizes many more people" for defense, who need to be trained.

- Vilnius is also not ruling out the option of sending instructors to Ukraine to train soldiers of the Defense Forces. Lithuania could take such a step if its Western partners joined it.
