AFU hits enemy headquarters in Lgov, Kursk region: lieutenant colonel, deputy commander and 17 servicemen reportedly killed. Photo and details
On December 25, the Armed Forces of Ukraine eliminated several commanders of the enemy army in the city of Lgov in Kursk region. Among them are the deputy commander of the 810th Guards Naval Infantry Brigade and the commander of the 656th Separate Engineer Battalion.
The attack on the occupiers' headquarters in Lgov was previously reported by the Department of Strategic Communications (StratCom) of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It was then that the death of the deputy commander of the 810th Brigade, Salim Pashtov, was announced.
And on January 2, Russia also reported that the commander of the 656th Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Pavel Maletsky, was killed there too.
Both commanders were at the headquarters when the Ukrainian army struck Lgov.
Along with Pashatov and Maletsky, there were other Russian military commanders in the building, seven of whom were killed. According to StratCom, "as a result, the deputy brigade commander and 17 other servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces, most of whom are staff officers, are probably dead."
It is likely that Maletsky was first among the wounded, joining the death list later in the hospital.
Russian 656th Separate Engineer Battalion is part of the notorious 76th Airborne Assault Division. It is known that soldiers are responsible for the occupation of Bucha in early 2022. They were the ones who shot unarmed civilians.
The head of the entire division, Major General Sergey Chubarykin, is a war criminal and has been notified of suspicion in Ukraine in absentia.
In the fall of 2022, this division was captured near Kherson, where it tried to restrain the advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to Beryslav. At the same time, the 656th Battalion mined the regional center, Kherson, itself.
In August 2023, it was reported that Chubarykin's soldiers were transferred to the Zaporizhzhia front, and a year later - to the Kursk region. Here, the battalion is building fortifications for the occupiers.
As reported, in December 2024, the Russian occupation forces quite expectedly set an absolute record for personnel losses. There was also a slight decline in losses of equipment due to the growing shortage in the troops. In total, in 2024, the Russia lost more soldiers and equipment in Ukraine as both Russia and the USSR did in all wars and conflicts after World War II.
