"Additional pressure": AFU explained whether Russian night strike on Odesa is connected with the situation around Transnistria

Russia dispels hysteria over Transnistria

Attempts to create socio-political tension are being recorded in the Russian-controlled enclave of Transnistria in Moldova, although there is no violent activity there at present. However, the occupiers are exerting pressure, in particular, by attacking Odesa region, which borders Transnistria, with missiles and kamikaze drones.

This was stated by Natalia Humeniuk, a spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, while commenting on the attack on the night of February 23. With the help of such attacks, the occupiers send a signal to their henchmen in Transnistria that they will allegedly provide them with "support" in case of any problems.

According to Humeniuk, there is no particular activity in occupied Transnistria at the moment. However, the Defense Forces have recorded efforts to "undermine the information space" and attempts to "create socio-political tension in these territories."

Such efforts against Transnistria, she added, occur from time to time in a kind of "waves".

And the hostile attacks on the Odesa region, which borders the pro-Russian enclave in Moldova, are related to recorded attempts at "information disruption," according to the spokeswoman for the Southern Defense Forces.

"The attack on the Odesa region that took place at night (on February 23 - Ed.), including the use of missiles, is an additional pressure and an attempt to convince that support will be provided in case of a stormy situation there," Humeniuk said.

However, she reassured Ukrainians that Ukraine's southern border within the Odesa region is securely protected and fortified, and the Defense Forces have ensured its inviolability.

"We are monitoring the situation, and such escalation and aggravation on the part of the "Transnistrian Republic" were predictable," she said.
