"Absolute barbarism": Sybiga appeals to the world community and the ICC after the execution of Ukrainian soldiers by the occupiers in Kursk region
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga has appealed to the international community over the executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian invaders. He called the killing and torture of unarmed prisoners and their detention in horrific conditions "absolute barbarism" and reminded that it grossly violates international humanitarian law and the laws of war.
The head of Ukrainian diplomacy also called on the world to take immediate measures to stop the crimes of the aggressor state: The International Criminal Court - to issue arrest warrants for war criminals from Russia, and partner states - to increase sanctions pressure on Russia. Sybiga wrote about this in his profile on the X network.
After the news about the execution of nine unarmed Ukrainian soldiers in Kursk region by the occupiers appeared on the network, Sibiga reminded the world community and international organizations that Russia is constantly violating international law.
"Russia's brutal treatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war is absolute barbarism, a gross violation of international humanitarian law, laws and customs of war. According to the UN, executions are becoming more frequent, 95% of prisoners of war are being tortured, deprived of basic needs and access," he said.
The head of Ukrainian diplomacy called on the world to do everything to stop the war crimes committed by Russia.
"The international community must take immediate action. Issue ICC warrants for the arrest of Russian torturers and torturers. Increase sanctions pressure. Demand access for international observers and medics to places of detention, facilitate the release of prisoners of war and all illegally detained persons," the Ukrainian Foreign Minister emphasized.
Earlier that day, on October 13, the DeepState project said that Russians had shot a group of Ukrainian soldiers in the Kursk region. Nine soldiers were executed by the invaders on October 10 near the village of Zelenyi Shliakh.
Because of this, Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets appealed to the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Before that, another execution was reported on October 6. Russian invaders shot Ukrainian soldiers at close range in New York, Donetsk region. The execution of three unarmed Ukrainian soldiers from one of the adjacent units was recorded by drones of the Azov Brigade.
And on October 1, Russians carried out the largest known execution: they took the lives of 16 Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Pokrovsk sector.
The killing of unarmed Ukrainian soldiers by Russians has become increasingly frequent in recent years. And this is not an "excess of the executor": according to ISW analysts, the Russian command approves the executions of captured Ukrainian soldiers.
