During a Russian drone attack on the night of December 17, one of the targets shot down in midair exploded, crashing into a residential building in the Odesa region. The blast wave damaged a number of other buildings, killing one person.
This was reported by the head of the Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper. He posted a photo of the consequences of another Russian crime on his official Telegram channel.
According to the official, this was the third air attack by enemy UAVs in a week. Unfortunately, it resulted in casualties.
It is known that the Air Defense Forces shot down nine Shahed-136/131 kamikaze drones in the sky over the Odesa region. However, one of them fell into a residential area in the Odesa district and exploded.
This resulted in the destruction of private residential buildings and the warehouse of a private sports institution. A large fire broke out at the site of the hit, but rescuers quickly extinguished it.
"A dead person was found in one of the houses. I express my sincere condolences to the family and friends. Law enforcement officers are recording the consequences of another Russian crime," Kiper said.
The Southern Defense Forces clarified that this enemy air attack lasted for five hours. In the southern zone, air defense units destroyed 16 drones launched by the occupiers from Crimea. In addition to nine drones over the Odesa region, seven more were shot down in the Kherson region.
The blast wave from one of the fired UAVs that fell on a house in the Odesa district damaged the surrounding houses and a hangar with the property of a sports center. In a residential neighborhood, houses, yards with outbuildings, cars and other belongings were destroyed.
As a reminder, during the attack, which lasted from Saturday evening, the defenders of the sky destroyed all 20 drones and an X-59 missile. Another enemy missile - a cruise missile from the Iskander-K system - did not reach its target.
