"70% of weapons used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine are internationally donated": the Ministry of Defense discloses details

About 70% of the weapons used by the Ukrainian Defense Forces on the battlefield are international military aid. At the same time, government procurement is increasingly focused on domestic producers – in 2024, almost two-thirds of contracts were signed with Ukrainian arms manufacturers.

This was stated by the First Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk, in an interview with Ukraininform published on February 7. He explained that there are such concepts as the full need for maximum intensity combat operations and the minimum necessary need "for conducting, for example, defensive actions."

"The full requirement has never been met. Approximately 70 percent of what was used on the battlefield by the Defense Forces was provided by international military assistance," said Havryliuk.

The official added that even now Ukraine needs help from partners, especially in supplying those types of weapons that it does not produce or produces in insufficient quantities.

In particular, we are talking about air defense systems, heavy armored vehicles, and ammunition for NATO-caliber artillery.

At the same time, Ukrainian manufacturers of weapons and military equipment are increasing production volumes and mastering the production of new models.

"Government procurement is increasingly focused on domestic producers. For example, last year, almost two-thirds of the contracts for the purchase of weapons and military equipment for the Armed Forces were signed with Ukrainian arms manufacturers," said Havryliuk.

According to the deputy minister, Ukraine has managed to reduce its dependence on imports, in particular, special armored vehicles.

The state is approaching self-sufficiency in the production of UAVs.

"I would like to emphasize the production of long-range drones. I think you regularly see in the news the results of strikes on the aggressor's military targets. Today, long-range strike drones are a kind of replacement for long-range missiles," the official said.

According to him, Ukraine is currently paying special attention to the speedy implementation of domestic programs for the production of long-range weapons: missiles and unmanned systems.

"These are the weapons that will be a serious argument for Ukraine. We need weapons of defense and deterrence," the deputy minister said.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the day before, the UK officially confirmed that it would convene the Ramstein meeting on February 12, 2025, at NATO headquarters in Brussels. The meeting is being organized by British Defense Secretary John Healey, unlike previous meetings chaired by the United States.
