Ukraine makes official statement on boycott of 2024 Olympics

Ukraine plans to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris regardless of the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes. At the same time, our country is ready to boycott the tournament if representatives of the aggressor countries are allowed to compete in the French capital with their national symbols.

This was stated in an interview with the Japanese news agency Kyodo News by the President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine Vadym Gutzeit. He stressed that our athletes intend to demonstrate to the world that the country continues to resist Russian aggression.

"Our athletes should be at the Olympics. Our flag will be at the opening ceremony, at the competitions, our athletes will represent our country, so that everyone in the world can see that Ukraine has been, is and will be. We don't pay attention to these athletes from Russia and Belarus because we don't understand who these athletes are. They are under a neutral flag. But if Russia and Belarus compete under their own flag, we will not participate in this Olympics," Gutzeit said.

As a reminder, a year before the start of the 2024 Winter Olympics, on 26 July, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) did not send invitations to Russia and Belarus to compete. In addition, the media disclosed the IOC's plans to allow Russians to participate in the Games in the status of a refugee team.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the president of the Russian Weightlifting Federation expressed the ridiculous opinion that the Games in Paris cannot have the status of Olympic, and that the real Olympics will be held in Moscow under the name of the Friendship Games, which were ordered by dictator Vladimir Putin and to which Ukraine was cynically invited.
