The scandalous episode occurred at the end of the Indonesian Football Cup quarterfinal match between Aceh United and Central Sulawesi. The main referee of the match, Eko Agus Sugiharto, made controversial decisions throughout the match and was eventually knocked out by a Sulawesi player.
Before that, Sugiharto ignored a violation in someone else's penalty area, where an Aceh player deliberately hit his opponent with his head.

After receiving a powerful blow to the jaw, the referee fell unconscious. Arriving medics hospitalized the victim, and a substitute referee took the field.
The hosts did not score a penalty, but a few minutes later the substitute referee awarded another 11-meter penalty to Central. This allowed Aceh United to equalize the score and take the game to overtime. The guests refused to finish the match and left the field. Aceh advanced to the semifinals.
The scandal has already been commented on by the head of the local soccer federation (PSSI), Erika Tohira: "The PSSI is thoroughly investigating this incident and will impose the harshest sanctions on all parties."
