The famous Italian football referee Daniele Orsato has changed his mind about working with the Russian Football Union (RFU). The 48-year-old referee, who retired after the 2024 European Championships, was offered to become the chief consultant to the RFU's expert and judicial commission.

The RFU press service announced the appointment of the Italian the night before. However, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that a few hours later Orsato decided to refuse to work with representatives of the aggressor country. Interestingly, he would not even have to travel to Russia, but would conduct all consultations remotely.

However, the chief referee of the 2020 Champions League final and the best football referee of the same year did not dare to cooperate with the Russians. Nothing is known about the reasons for the changes in Orsato's plans. It is assumed that he wants to spend time with his family and is waiting for new offers.

It should be noted that the RFU refereeing department has been headed by Serbian Milorad Majic since last summer. He is known for refereeing the Champions League final match in Kyiv in 2018, when Real Madrid beat Liverpool 3-1.
