Russia will miss 4 Olympics: Match TV commentator urges Russians to prepare for disaster
A well-known Russian commentator Dmitry Guberniev has expressed confidence that his country's national team will not compete at the Olympic Games in the next eight years. According to the journalist, the current decisions of some federations to allow Russian representatives to compete have nothing to do with their actual participation in the tournaments.
Guberniev said this in an interview with the propaganda TV channel Match TV, commenting on the suspension of three Olympic fencing champions - Sofia Velikaya, Sofia Pozdnyakova and Yana Yegoryan. Dmitry added that in the future, young athletes who are not affiliated with the army and law enforcement agencies will take part in the Games.
"My forecast is still pessimistic. I think that we will miss not even two Olympics (the upcoming summer and winter ones), but as many as four. And the opportunity to compete at the Olympics in the distant future, I think, will be given to athletes who are now very young, who are actually still in juniors. Perhaps in boys or girls. And who are not bound by contracts with certain sports associations. In any case, all these admissions, to summarise, of a number of federations mean nothing! We will not perform!" - Guberniev said.
Earlier, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that federations suspend Russian athletes related to the Russian army and law enforcement agencies, as well as team sports.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the president of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Stanislav Pozdnyakov, hinted that Russia would boycott the Games in Paris. And the Russian Fencing Federation refused to participate in international tournaments.
