U.S. Intelligence speaks out about probable origin of COVID from Wuhan lab
United States intelligence agencies have found no direct evidence that the COVID-19 pandemic originated from an incident at China's Wuhan Institute of Virology. That said, U.S. intelligence still cannot rule out the possibility that the virus came from a laboratory.
According to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the origin of the virus itself also remains in doubt, as does its origins. This is reported by Reuters.
The intelligence report states that the CIA and another agency remain unable to determine the exact origin of the COVID-19 pandemic because both hypotheses (natural and laboratory) are based on significant assumptions. Moreover, all versions face problems because of conflicting reports.
The report states that there has indeed been "extensive work" on coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute in China. However, the agencies found no evidence of a specific incident that may have caused the COVID-19 outbreak.
"We still have no indication that pre-pandemic research funds included SARSCoV-2 or its close ancestor, and no direct evidence that a specific research-related incident involving Wuhan laboratory personnel occurred before the pandemic that could have caused a COVID pandemic," the report says.
Recall that in March 2023 the House of Representatives (the lower house of the US Congress) voted unanimously to declassify US intelligence information on the origin of COVID-19. This was a large-scale demonstration of bipartisan support on the eve of the third anniversary of the beginning of the deadly pandemic.
As OBOZREVATEL reported, Christopher Wray, director of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, said that the COVID-19 pandemic probably originated from a leak from a laboratory in the Chinese city of Wuhan. He stressed that the Chinese government is trying in every way to prevent the disclosure of the true cause of the pandemic.
