Students rally in Lviv, demanding Farion's dismissal

On the afternoon of November 14, hundreds of students of Lviv Polytechnic National University protested to demand the dismissal of lecturer Iryna Farion. The former MP is being asked to leave the university after her scandalous remarks about Ukrainian soldiers.

The students demand Farion's immediate dismissal without any commissions. This was reported to OBOZ.UA by participants of the rally from the scene (to see photos and videos, scroll to the bottom of the page).

A week ago, students of Lviv Polytechnic, where the controversial ex-MP Farion teaches, called for her dismissal. The students demanded a reaction from the leadership of the national university to the scandalous statements of the "defender of the Ukrainian language."

Moreover, the position of the students was supported by the Ministry of Education of Ukraine. At the same time, they noted that the decision to dismiss Farion should be made by the university administration.

Now hundreds of students have come out to protest, demanding Farion's immediate dismissal. The categorical position of the students was influenced, in particular, by Farion's rash act, which led to the detention of the student by the Russian military in the temporarily occupied Crimea.

At the rally, the students noted that Farion disgraced the whole of Ukraine with her inadequate actions. They also reminded her of her communist past.

According to the protesters, the university administration allegedly sees no legal grounds to dismiss Farion. At the same time, the students announced a deadline: if there are no results by November 22, they will act further. During the commission, both the management and the students will have a dialog.

OBOZ.UA asked Zoriana Kunch, head of the Ukrainian language department at Lviv Polytechnic National University, where Farion works, for a comment on the situation. However, the linguist said that she was ill and would not comment.

Hundreds of rally participants chant "Shame!" and "Jail the communist!". The students emphasized that Farion's clumsy attempts to defend the Ukrainian language actually split Ukrainian society and played along with Kremlin propaganda.

Earlier, Farion said that she "cannot call" the soldiers of the famous Azov regiment who do not speak Ukrainian Ukrainians. According to her, the defenders should call themselves "Russians ". Such words outraged the society.

After that, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, appealed to law enforcement agencies because of the inappropriate statements of former MP Iryna Farion. The Ombudsman emphasized that men and women from different groups of society, different nationalities, religions and beliefs, and different places of residence serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

As a reminder, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine supported the students of Lviv Polytechnic who appealed to the university not to cooperate with the teacher Iryna Farion, who does not respect Ukrainian defenders. However, in its response, the agency noted that the decision to terminate working relations was to be made by the educational institution.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, former MP Iryna Farion, who does not respect Ukrainian soldiers, was the reason for the detention of a student from the temporarily occupied Crimea, who is waiting for the peninsula to be liberated. She published the guy's name, surname, place of study and city of residence online.
