The Ministry of Health has provided information about the coronavirus situation in Ukraine

Ukraine has already witnessed a gradual increase in COVID-19 cases as the coronavirus epidemic season starts earlier than the flu season. It is predicted that by the end of this epidemiological season, the Pirole strain will become prevalent in our country, which is currently actively replacing Omicron in Europe and the United States.

Ihor Kuzin, Deputy Minister of Health and Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine, informed Ukrinform. He noted that the new Pirole strain requires special supervision and monitoring, as not all of its properties are known.

"It is a mutation around the Omicron variant, which possesses all the characteristics inherent in the original Omicron strain. This implies that it spreads as rapidly and does not cause severe illness in individuals without immunocompromised conditions or concomitant non-communicable serious diseases," the doctor said.

"Sooner or later, this strain will find its way to Ukraine. Consequently, this will increase the incidence of coronavirus, which is why Pirola is likely to become predominant in Ukraine by the end of the first quarter of 2024.

According to Kuzin, the incidence of COVID-19 is gradually increasing. Therefore, from September 4 to 10, 1241 cases of coronavirus were recorded, and from September 11 to 17, 2203 cases were already recorded.

The doctor urged individuals with cancer and cardiovascular diseases, the elderly, as well as those who have not received any vaccinations or have not completed the entire immunization course, including two booster shots, to get vaccinated against coronavirus.

Currently, Ukraine has approximately 5 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, primarily distributed to regional centers. These vaccines include CoronaVac, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, and Pfizer vaccines for children.

A new, mutated variant of the Pirole coronavirus is circulating in Europe and the United States, which could lead to a surge in COVID-19 cases. This new strain was discovered in August and has been officially named BA.2.86. You can read about its symptoms here.

As previously reported by OBOZREVATEL, on July 1, 2023, Ukraine officially ended the quarantine that began on March 12, 2020, due to the spread of the coronavirus disease.
