Zelenskyy explains whether Ukrainians will be forced to return from abroad

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has commented on the possibility of forced return of Ukrainian citizens from abroad. According to him, it is important for our country not to lose 7.5 million people who have left Ukraine.

The president also noted that he would like all Ukrainians to be in their country if they decide to. Zelenskyy said this at the "Ukraine 2024. Independence" forum.

Zelenskyy said that adult Ukrainians and children should be returned to the country without coercion. To do this, it is necessary to create conditions that will facilitate return to Ukraine.

In particular, the president said that Ukrainians should be provided with jobs. In addition, there is the issue of communication. Some Ukrainians, especially those who lost their relatives in the war, choose to stay abroad.

"This primarily concerns Poland and Germany, where most of our Ukrainians live. I believe that today we need to work out a policy for this institution and make a decision in the fall," Zelenskyy said.

"I am only in favor if Ukrainians come, but only without coercion. Thus, it is an important point here, I raised this issue, there are Ukrainians who work in Germany, Poland, and other countries. And there are Ukrainians who do not work. I do not want to call Ukrainians who do not work there any names, but it is clear that it is politically advantageous not to spend financial aid on yourself only on the third year of the war but send it to Ukraine," the president said.

As a reminder, Ukrainians aged 18 to 60 who are abroad and have not updated their military registration data will not be able to obtain driver's licenses and vehicle registration certificates.

Earlier, it became known that the Ukrainian government wants to optimize and verify the information in the Unified State Register of Conscripts, Persons Liable for Military Service and Reservists. A pilot project for automatic data verification has been launched.
