How many Ukrainians believe that Ukraine can succeed with the support of the West: poll results
More than 80% of Ukrainians believe that Ukraine can succeed in the war waged by Russia, provided it receives proper support from the West. Compared to December 2023, this percentage has decreased in all regions except the West.
These data were obtained as a result of a nationwide survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS). The public opinion survey was conducted from September 20 to October 3, 2024.
The majority of Ukrainians (81%) are confident that Ukraine can succeed with proper support from its allies. At the same time, 14% believe that Russia is too strong, and 6% of respondents were undecided.
Between December 2023 and September 2024, the number of those who believe in the possibility of success decreased in all regions except the West. The largest decline is observed in the East, where in December 2023, 79% of respondents believed that success was possible, and now only 67%.
In addition, compared to December, the number of those who believe that Russia is too strong for Ukraine to cause serious setbacks has increased by 7%.
Between February and September 2024, the share of respondents who believe that the West is tired of Ukraine decreased to 38% (compared to 44% in February).
At the same time, the number of those who believe that the West wants to end the war on terms acceptable to Ukraine and continues to provide serious assistance to our country has increased. Currently, 54% of Ukrainians believe this, compared to 49% in February.
The survey was conducted among 989 respondents throughout government-controlled Ukraine. The method of data collection was telephone interviews, and the sampling error did not exceed 4.1%.
Earlier it was reported that despite the regular shelling of Ukrainian energy facilities by the occupiers, the vast majority of citizens plan to stay at home in winter. 89% of respondents will spend the upcoming autumn-winter period at their place of permanent residence.
