Zelenskyy on Putin's tribunal: murderers must go to jail

Zelenskyy speaks about Putin's tribunal

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy considers it a simple question whether those responsible for Russia's unprovoked aggressive war against Ukraine should go to prison. It is simply a question of whether the murderers should be punished fairly.

This topic was raised by representatives of the Latin American media when they spoke to the Ukrainian leader in his office in Kyiv. A recording of the interview was published on the OP's YouTube channel on 3 June (to watch the video, scroll to the end of the page).

The journalist noted that among Latin American countries, there are both supporters of a tribunal for the Russian military and political leadership (such as Colombia, Uruguay, and Chile) and opponents (such as Brazil).

Zelenskyy replied that Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva probably "wants to be special". "And it seems to me that smart people should give him this opportunity," he said.

"We need to answer very simple questions. Does the president of Brazil think the murderers should be convicted and go to jail? I think the president, if he has the opportunity... if he finds the time... he will answer very simply: the murderers should be imprisoned," Zelensky said.

He continued: what if thousands of people have been killed in Ukraine? And the Russian occupation forces did it on the orders of dictator Vladimir Putin? Should the person who gave the order to do so be in prison?

Zelenskyy noted that if the Brazilian president does not like the idea of establishing a tribunal put forward by Ukraine, da Silva can offer his own version of how to punish criminals faster.

The Ukrainian leader assured that "we are only in favour of any innovation in the law enforcement sphere".

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported:

- "After talks with Finnish President Sauli Niinistö, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said he supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

- Before that, he said he did not want to choose a side in the "conflict" and repeated that he wanted to remain "on the side of peace". At the same time, he called Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine a mistake.
