The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has responded to the scandalous statement by the Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament regarding Ukraine's accession to NATO. In response, the ministry noted that Ukraine does not need the permission of the aggressor country, Russia, to join the Alliance.

This was written by Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko on Facebook. He noted that Ukraine is a sovereign state and has the right to freely choose its own security means.

This thesis has been repeatedly confirmed by all NATO member states, including Hungary itself.

"We do not need Russia's permission to become a member of the Alliance. At the same time, it is dangerous when some Hungarian politicians try to make the security of the Euro-Atlantic area dependent on Moscow's whims," the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

Nikolenko stressed that there is no objective obstacle to Ukraine's accession to NATO. Our country's membership will only strengthen the Alliance and prevent Russia from taking aggressive actions against Europe in the future.

It should be reminded that the Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament, Dora Duro, has started to echo the scandalous Prime Minister Viktor Orban. She said that Ukraine's accession to NATO would be possible only if Russia approves it in the form of a certain agreement.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL:

- On April 21, North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg assured that all NATO countries agree that Ukraine should become a member of the Alliance. He also promised to support Kyiv on its way to joining this defence alliance.

- However, Stoltenberg's words were immediately denied by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who reminded that Budapest opposes Ukraine's accession to the Alliance.

- At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says that our country expects "very concrete steps" from the NATO summit in Vilnius, both in terms of security guarantees on the way to joining the Alliance and specifics on when this might happen.
