Turkey says it supports NATO expansion but at the same time curtsies to Putin
The office of Turkish President Recep Erdogan said that Ankara supports the geographical expansion of NATO. At the same time, they emphasized that they do not welcome the expansion of the military bloc "against any particular country."
At the same time, Erdogan said that NATO expansion is necessary to make the Alliance a comprehensive security organization that will help achieve stability. Fahrettin Altun, head of the communications department of the Turkish presidential administration, said this in an interview with Middle East Eye magazine.
He said Turkey believes that the alliance's expansion is key to lasting peace and stability in the world, but does not support NATO's geographic expansion "against any particular country."
Altun emphasized that being in the Western camp is crucial for Turkey, as the country controls the geographical land bridge between East and West and the waterways to the Black Sea. He also said that Turkey's "long-standing and deep commitment to NATO has protected Europe."
"In an increasingly unstable world full of countless threats and new forms of warfare, Turkey is actively engaged in confronting these new challenges by supporting NATO's strategic orientation. In the future, Turkey will remain a loyal ally and an important partner in the alliance's new initiatives," the head of the Communications Directorate of the Turkish Presidential Administration said.
To remind, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he could simplify the process of accession of our state to NATO after the war. Therefore, it caused another hysteria among Russians.
Earlier it was reported that Turkey agreed to Sweden's accession to NATO. Turkish leader Recep Erdogan agreed to send a protocol to Parliament on the country's accession to the Alliance as soon as possible.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, Ankara does not intend to break diplomatic relations with Moscow. Already in August, Turkish President Recep Erdogan expects to meet Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin assassin has already been invited but has not given a final answer yet.
