On Tuesday, May 23, Slovenia recognised the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people. The country's parliament adopted a declaration.

This was announced by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk, the Rada TV channel reports. He thanked the Slovenian parliamentarians for the important decision.

"I am grateful to the Slovenian parliamentarians for adopting a declaration that recognises the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people and honours the memory of the victims of this terrible crime," the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada said, adding that humanity must remember this horror so that it does not happen again in the future.

The Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, also welcomed the decision of the Slovenian Parliament and expressed his gratitude.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy also reacted to the event on Twitter.

"I am grateful to the parliamentarians from Drzavnizbor for adopting a declaration honouring the memory of millions of victims of the Holodomor-Genocide in Ukraine in 1932-1933. The international coalition of states committed to restoring historical justice continues to grow stronger. Together to the truth, and therefore to responsibility!" - Zelenskyy stressed.

To recap: On May 17, the Senate of France also recognised the Holodomor of 1932-1933, artificially organised by the Soviet authorities, as genocide of the Ukrainian people. This decision was voted for by 327 senators.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba thanked the French for this decision. He noted that this vote was historic.
