Joint arms production and the restoration of the Dnipro region: Zelenskyy holds talks with presidents of Slovakia and Czech Republic

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel and President of Slovakia Zuzana Čaputová held talks in Kyiv on Friday, April 28. The politicians discussed cooperation in arms production, as well as plans to restore the Dnipro region.

The meeting was followed by a joint briefing. According to an OBOZREVATEL correspondent, Petr Pavel said that the Czech Republic has six joint arms production projects with Ukraine (to see the photo, scroll down to the end of the news story).

For Petr Pavel, this is his first trip to Ukraine as head of state since the start of the large-scale Russian-Ukrainian war. During the briefing, he emphasised that the Czech Republic would open a consulate in Dnipro as it will be involved in the restoration of the Dnipro region.

"We are ready to provide assistance in the framework of partnership based on our experience gained on the way to the EU. I also brought assurances that our cooperation will continue and deepen. And it will not only concern military assistance, but will also take various forms, in particular in the areas of business development," the Czech guarantor stressed.

Earlier, the Czech leader announced his arrival in the Ukrainian capital. On Friday morning, he posted a photo on his Twitter account showing him and Čaputová against the backdrop of a destroyed house in Borodyanka, Kyiv region.

For her part, Zuzana Čaputová said that she was returning to Kyiv less than a year after her last visit, which shook her "for life". She noted that the night's tragedy in Dnipro and Uman "remind us that we cannot afford to look away".

"Places torn by war suffer from intractable trauma and horrors that cannot be forgotten. People lose their loved ones, whom no one can bring back to them. I understand that it may be difficult for many of us to imagine and fully experience this, because most of us have never experienced anything like this. I am also here with President Pavel so that we never have anything like this," she wrote on Facebook.

"When it comes to war crimes, it is very important that these crimes are punished fairly. That is why I am very pleased that the Slovak Republic is one of the first countries to send groups of experts to document war crimes. This is necessary so that we can bring the perpetrators to justice in the future," the Slovak President explained.

- The presidents of 11 countries, including the Czech Republic and Slovakia, condemned Russia's massive missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, which constitute war crimes under international law.
