"Dialogue at the highest level is possible": Presidential Administration meets with newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Ukraine
Head of the Presidential Office of Ukraine Andrii Yermak met with the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Kyiv Ma Shengkun. The day before, the latter presented his credentials to Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to Yermak, the parties discussed "prospects for bilateral cooperation between China and Ukraine." The head of the OP also reminded the Chinese diplomat of China's possible role in achieving a just peace for Ukraine.
"In addition, we talked about the possibility of bilateral dialogue at the highest level," Yermak added without elaborating.
President Zelenskyy accepted Ma Shengkun's credentials on December 24, the Presidential Administration reminded.
Chinese diplomat Ma Shengkun worked at the Permanent Mission in Geneva and the Department of Arms Control of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, and in 2019 he was promoted to Deputy Director of the Department of Arms Control of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan suggested that China could be involved in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. The idea of China's involvement in "creating conditions for a just peace in Ukraine" was previously expressed by US President-elect Donald Trump, and according to Sullivan, it is "not crazy."
