Zelenskyy says Ukraine already belongs to NATO security space

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that since the start of a full-scale war against Russia, Ukraine has done its best to unite the European community and the collective West. Furthermore, the head of state is confident that de facto our country already belongs to the NATO security space.

At the same time, the leaders of the North Atlantic Alliance must have the courage to recognise Ukraine's contribution to defending peace. Zelenskyy said this at the opening of the conference on Ukraine's reconstruction, which is taking place these days in London.

The Ukrainian head of state addressed the audience immediately after British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Zelenskyy thanked the West for helping our country during the fight against Russian aggression.

At the same time, the president noted, among other things, the important contribution of our country to the security and consolidation of the European community. According to him, only thanks to Ukraine have the countries of the European Union activated the entire force of solidarity.

Furthermore, President Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine had accumulated more power for NATO. This, in turn, showed the North Atlantic Alliance's leadership in defending peace.

"Ukraine has already succeeded because Ukraine has already united the European community and the collective West like never before. Through economic sanctions and humanitarian solutions, Ukraine has activated all the power of solidarity that the European Union lacked. Ukraine has also activated more power for NATO. This is crucial for all of us. Indeed, NATO's leadership in defending the world is now more evident than ever. And it is all thanks to Ukraine," Zelenskyy said.

The Ukrainian president also expressed confidence that our country had already contributed to the security of the alliance, so de facto Ukraine already belongs to the NATO security space.

Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is still waiting for the leaders of the North Atlantic Alliance to show courage in order to recognize the weighty role of our country.

"Ukraine has already contributed to the security situation of the North Atlantic Alliance. We now see and share common values with the European Union. And already now Ukraine is defending the space for the European Union and we are waiting for the courage of the leaders of the North Atlantic Alliance to politically acknowledge this reality," Zelenskyy concluded.

We shall remind you that deputy Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said that Ukraine would have its own path to NATO membership. At the moment, the USA is focused on making sure that Ukraine gets everything it needs on the battlefield.

As OBOZREVATEL reported:

- According to media reports, France plans to support Ukraine's membership of NATO. Paris believes that the prospect of joining the Alliance could reduce Moscow's desire to continue the war.

- Stoltenberg, speaking at a briefing in Berlin, said that there would be no official invitation for Ukraine to join NATO at the summit in Vilnius in July but that the meeting would discuss how to bring Ukraine closer to the alliance.

- Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Melnyk believes that Ukraine might be offered an unexpected variant of cooperation at the NATO summit, which is still being negotiated. Perhaps this will be a step towards accession.

- Earlier, US President Joe Biden said that Ukraine had to fight corruption more fiercely before it could talk about membership in the Alliance. He also said that he had no intention to weaken the barriers for Kiev. Read more about the debate on Ukraine's accession to NATO in the article.
