"When they say that Ukraine is almost destroyed, what should be the reaction?" Zelenskyy explains what provoked the dispute at the meeting with Trump. Video
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained what provoked the dispute in the White House with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and Donald Trump. According to the head of state, there were "sensitive things" during the dialogue that offended him.
In particular, these were incorrect statements by American politicians about the number of Ukrainians killed in the war and the lost territories. He spoke about this on Fox News.
"When big politicians say that Ukraine is almost destroyed, our soldiers are running away, that they are not heroes, that Ukraine has lost millions of people, and that the president is a dictator, what should be the reaction? And it's not about me. The reaction is: where is the friendship between the United States and Ukraine?" the president said.
Zelenskyy believes that the dispute that occurred is bad, but he believes that relations with Trump can be salvaged because the historical bond between the peoples of the United States and Ukraine is strong.
"I don't want to lose our great partners in the United States. This is not the first time I have said this. We had other conversations, meetings in Munich, and I said: "Please be correct. Be correct with the numbers." When you talk about numbers, every person is important. When you talk about millions of dead, we do not have a million dead. When you talk about the territories, that "maybe some territories were lost," it's not just territory. These are houses. These are people's lives. No one wants to forgive Putin. It's not funny and it's not a fairy tale. This is real life. This is what I said," Zelenskyy added.
In addition, the president noted, Trump for some reason did not want to talk about security guarantees for Ukraine at all. The American leader offered just a "ceasefire" without any guarantees.
"But I can't tell my people: "Stop." No one will stop, because everyone is afraid that Putin will return tomorrow," Zelenskyy explained.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, Volodymyr Zelenskyy does not consider it necessary to apologize to Donald Trump because of their dispute in the White House. The President of Ukraine regrets what happened, but claims that the American president needs to "understand the position of Ukrainians."
