"We want to end the war this year." Zelensky speaks on security guarantees and says US helped Putin break out of isolation

Ukraine would like to end the war in 2025, but we need security guarantees. At the same time, Donald Trump's administration helped dictator Vladimir Putin break out of years of isolation, in particular through its talks with Russians in Saudi Arabia on February 18.

This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky at a press conference on Wednesday, February 19. It was broadcast online.

"We want to end the war this year," the head of state said.

He noted that Putin and the Russians are very happy that the United States has brought them out of isolation.

"Because we are discussing issues with them. And yesterday there were already signals about them as a "victim". This is something new. I don't want to criticize the United States officials, but... Secretary of State [Marco] Rubio said that this is a "conflict" (Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine - Ed.), and this is a softening of the policy," the president said.

Regarding security guarantees, our country "is in a situation where we do not have many formats" for this.

"And no one will simply build something new, globally space-based. Because we want security guarantees this year. Because we want to end the war this year," Zelensky said.

He suggested adding Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Alliance to these guarantees. "I understand: every time I say 'NATO' to them, they don't even like the fact that we are talking about it, you will understand... But we say what we think," the president said.

When it is said in the context of security guarantees that "we need to give something to the Russians," it is worth understanding: Ukraine does not want security guarantees from Russia. "This is the question. We have not yet reached the conditions for the Russians. When we talk about an agreement, we will talk about what the Russians should do. And now we are talking about a quick decision, security guarantees that depend only on our partners," Zelensky explained.

As OBOZ.UA wrote, at this press conference, the President of Ukraine also spoke about the statements of the US President regarding the amount of assistance provided to our country. According to Zelensky, there is no question of any 350 or 500 billion dollars.
