US Treasury Secretary meets with Zelenskyy in Kyiv and hands over first draft of partnership agreement: what is known

During the visit of U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to Kyiv, the United States handed over to Ukraine the first draft of a partnership agreement between the two countries. This document is part of further guarantees of assistance to Ukrainians from America.

This was announced on February 12 by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to him, everything must be done to finalize and sign the agreement "very quickly."

According to the Ukrainian leader, he and Bessent "talked about minerals."

"Our team was given the first draft of this relevant document on a partnership between the countries. I want our team to work on this document, and we will do everything to reach an agreement and sign it quickly," Zelenskyy explained.

He added that the agreements should be formalized at the appropriate levels either before or at the Munich Security Conference.

As a reminder, the Munich Security Conference will take place from February 14 to 16. The main issue of the meeting will be Russia's groundless war against Ukraine.

"We have gas and oil production on the territory we control. We have a shelf in the Black Sea. This is our land, and this is a lot of money. Today it is under the occupation of Russian mercenaries, and it is very expensive for us. And we can give those who help us defend our land the opportunity to invest and invest in them. Our partners, especially American business. We are very open," the Ukrainian president said, adding that "we need to talk about this in a meaningful way."

For his part, Bessent said that the first draft of the agreement is not only "part of further guarantees to Ukrainians from the United States," but also "an important signal to the Russian leadership" that the United States is ready for further cooperation with Ukraine.
