Ukrainian diplomat breaks down Putin's "signals" during the press conference and explains whether to expect peacekeepers in Ukraine

Bezsmertnyi explaine whom Putin was addressing during his "direct line"

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin showed certain signals during his annual "direct line" that were intended sabotage groups, political and other agents in the government, and Ukrainian and Western society. However, the Kremlin leader also pursued another goal: to "feed" Russians with the narratives he needed before the winter holidays so that people would spend this time discussing them.

The dictator did not say anything about solving the problems of ordinary Russian citizens, so he tried to divert their attention to other topics. This was stated by Ukrainian politician and diplomat Roman Bezsmertnyi on the OBOZ.UA channel.

"It was like taking people into another world and manipulating them in this world he had created. This is not the world of an ordinary person living in Russia. This is his world, his bunker, his isolated system of scarce information, nothing more and nothing less," he said.

Will peacekeepers appear in Ukraine?

Commenting on the possibility of foreign peacekeepers appearing in Ukraine, Bezsmertnyi noted that although this issue is currently being discussed, it is unlikely to happen in the near future. Also, in his opinion, as of now, negotiations and signing of any peace agreement with Russia are only 1.5-2% realistic.

The diplomat believes that behind the façade of these talks about the so-called peacekeeping contingent, there is actually a discussion of the formation of not just a military-political bloc, but of a defense industry complex, and the issue of providing armored vehicles, drones, shells, air defense systems and missile defense systems.

"Most likely, the topic of peacekeepers is a kind of continuation of the conversation that took place back in February 2024 at the Elysee Palace, where Emmanuel Macron asked the question quite clearly: to what extent are European states ready to help Ukraine with personnel? Today, the situation has reached a point where it is possible to discuss this topic. The problem of guarantees has emerged, and it can be solved by allowing European and NATO troops to enter the territory of Ukraine," he says.

However, this option is ruined by one simple question - what happens if Russia strikes Ukraine at the moment of guarantee fulfillment? Western troops will quickly gather and return because they are not fit for combat. "They are suitable for being targets," the politician noted.

"And from my point of view, most of the conversations you just asked about consisted of two parts: closed and open. This indicates that along with the discussion of an issue that is unlikely to be effective today, let's put it mildly, other important problems are being resolved as well," Bezsmertnyi said.

Now Europe and NATO are saying: Ukraine needs to be provided with maximum assistance so that it can seize the strategic and tactical initiative, and then we can talk about some negotiations and signing of any documents.

"And from my point of view, what has been happening these days, starting with Warsaw, Lviv, and then Brussels, is essentially preparing Europeans for a dialogue with Donald Trump. It is not obvious whether it will take place at the time of the inauguration or after that, but it is clear that the Europeans will force Trump to make a decision: will you provide assistance to Ukraine or not? Stay low then, and we will work together with Ukraine. This is what we believe in," the diplomat summarized.

As previously reported, former Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States and Austria and former Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Volodymyr Yelchenko said that there are only two ways to deploy European troops in Ukraine. These are either the creation of a new UN peacekeeping mission or of a coalition of those who is willing to do it.

Meanwhile, former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Volodymyr Ohryzko said that US President-elect Donald Trump's plan to deploy foreign peacekeepers in Ukraine is not something that can be implemented. At the moment, this is only a hypothetical option.
