"Ukraine must remain resilient": Democratic Congressman suggests that Trump will soon see that Russia is not serious about peace talks
It will take the administration of US President Donald Trump three to six months to realize that "Russia is not serious about peace talks, and putting pressure on Ukraine is not the way to achieve anything." But during this period, the White House can continue its harsh policy toward Kyiv.
"Ukraine has to stay strong and resilient, and I know it can do that," said Democratic Congressman Eugene Vindman, who was born in Kyiv. In an interview with the Voice of America, he shared his forecast and emphasized that Europeans need to step up now.
"Because this war is happening on their continent, and they need to take greater responsibility for their own security," the American politician said.
He drew attention to the fact that Washington is currently exerting pressure only on Ukraine, and there is no pressure on Russia – at least not publicly. Vindman does not see this as a "meaningful, logical, useful" negotiation tactic.
The politician added that the Trump administration often repeats Russian narratives, although "it was Ukraine that said all along that it was ready to negotiate." "It is the Russian side that is not ready to talk!" the congressman said.
He assured that the majority of Americans support Ukraine and its struggle. The world is at the beginning of the end of this war, but "there is a dark and difficult path ahead."
As OBOZ.UA wrote, after Donald Trump "forgot" that he called the President of Ukraine a "dictator," he said he had great respect for Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The American leader expects a "great meeting" with his Ukrainian counterpart (it will take place on Friday, February 28).
