"This is the best guarantee of security": Zelenskyy outlines his vision for the future of the Ukrainian army

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he would maintain the maximum number of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to protect the interests of the state. He emphasized that the Ukrainian army would be the main guarantee of security.

The head of state said this at a meeting with journalists on February 26. He expressed doubt about Russia's desire to end the war.

During a conversation with journalists, Volodymyr Zelenskyy answered questions about the foreign contingent in Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire, and whether he would reduce the number of troops.

The President noted that work is currently underway to send peacekeepers to Ukraine. He emphasized that the position of the United States, the number of countries willing to send their troops, and the number of foreign military would play an important role in this regard.

"We are taking steps in this direction. We currently have different visions of the number of troops... But the main thing is that we move towards a positive, sustainable, and just peace, towards a result," the head of state said.

At the same time, Zelenskyy emphasized that he doubted that Russia wanted to end the war.

"And therefore, it is on the basis that we believe in our army, that it will be one of the main guarantees of security, so I will keep in any case the maximum number of troops that Ukraine needs to protect its interests," the president emphasized.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, during his conversation with the media, Zelenskyy also confirmed that the US and Ukraine had agreed on a "framework agreement" on minerals. However, the document does not contain any provisions on Ukraine's debt – neither $500 billion nor any other amount – nor on the full transfer of Ukrainian resources to US ownership.
