"This is not very pleasant": Zelenskyy comments on Putin's conversation with Trump and speaks about peace talks
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about Donald Trump's conversation with Vladimir Putin, which took place before his own conversation with the US president. According to him, this is not very pleasant, but Ukraine needs to maintain America's support.
At the same time, Ukraine does not accept any negotiations about its fate without its own participation, and he emphasized this to Trump. The president said this in a commentary to the Ukrainian media during a visit to the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant, Radio Liberty reports.
"As for the conversation. He knows my thoughts. I believe that Ukraine is the priority. And we are at war, and Putin is against us. He knows," Zelenskyy said, adding that Trump spoke about his desire to talk to the two presidents simultaneously.
According to the Ukrainian leader, the US president did not say in the conversation that Putin and Russia were a priority, so Ukraine today trusts these words. However, it is extremely important to maintain America's support.
"I don't accept this call that it was a priority, that he talked to Russia first. Although it is not very pleasant in any case. Because you know how the Ukrainian society, how all of us and the Europeans react, that first of all, it is Ukraine, and nothing can be about Ukraine without Ukraine," he said.
Zelenskyy also said that during their conversation, they discussed North Korea's role in the war, Ukrainian achievements in drone production, and the threat from Iran, which helps Russia.
Trump was impressed by the drone system that Ukraine has built, as well as the technological platform of about 200 enterprises. Zelenskyy emphasized that we are No. 1 in the world or one of the first in this field.
According to him, meetings between Ukraine, the United States, and European allies, who help Ukrainians a lot, should be held first. Only after that, according to Zelenskyy, will it be possible to talk about any contacts with Russia.
"If calls are calls, I understand everything, but meetings are a priority for us. Ukraine, America, and only after such meetings, after working out a plan to stop Putin, I think it is fair to talk to the Russians," the Ukrainian leader explained.
Zelenskyy noted that during the conversation, Trump did not ask about possible elections in 2025.
"It's easier with elections. There is no such question here, there was no such question. He did not voice it," the head of state said.
