Rada supported the transfer of Christmas celebrations to December 25 and changed the dates of some other holidays: all details
Christmas in Ukraine will now be celebrated on 25 December. The corresponding decision was supported by MPs of the Verkhovna Rada by 241 votes on July 14.
Only 2 people's elected representatives voted against it. This was reported by "European Solidarity" MP member Oleksii Honcharenko on his Telegram. In addition, the dates of the celebration of several other holidays have also been postponed:
- Day of Ukrainian Statehood. From July 28 to July 15,
- The Day of Defenders of Ukraine. From October 14 to October 1.
"Well, we will celebrate December 25 (Christmas. - ed.). We have been gradually coming to this for the last few years and now the final decision has been made. The right decision indeed", Honcharenko commented.
He specified that all the changes will start to take effect on September 1. That is, the Day of Ukrainian Statehood will be celebrated on July 28 this year. Next year it will be July 15. The Day of defenders and protectors will be October 1.
We shall remind you that the new dates of Christmas, the Day of Ukrainian Statehood and the Day of Defenders of Ukraine were officially approved in Ukraine in June by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. He submitted two important bills to the Verkhovna Rada, one of which proposed to change the dates of celebrations, the other to officially establish the status of English as one of the languages of international communication in our state, as well as to determine how it will be used in the work of public authorities.
As OBOZREVATEL reported, in May 2023, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine made a landmark decision: from September 1, 2023 it will move to a new Julian calendar. This means that all church holidays with non-transitional, fixed dates will shift almost two weeks back.
