"No comment": Russian delegation leaves the venue of talks with the US in Istanbul. Video
On Thursday, February 27, talks between representatives of the United States and Russia took place in Istanbul. They lasted more than six hours.
However, after the meeting, the Russian delegation left the negotiating venue without giving any comments. This was reported by pro-Kremlin media.
The main topic of the meeting was the issue of "normalizing the work of the embassies" of the two countries. However, the details of the discussions are still unknown.
Journalists were waiting for the talks to end at the residence of the US Consul General in Istanbul, but the Russian delegation eventually left without giving any comments.
The members of the Russian delegation were not announced.
It is worth noting that the meeting was held at the residence of the US Consul General in the Turkish capital.
Announcing the meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed hope that following the results of the dialogue with US representatives, Moscow would "understand" how both sides "will be able to move quickly and effectively" in resolving issues.
As a reminder, on February 18, the first meeting between representatives of the United States and the Russian Federation took place in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, with the participation of Saudi officials. The talks lasted about five hours. The U.S. State Department noted that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov agreed to establish a consultation mechanism to eliminate "irritants" in relations between the two countries.
Subsequently, diplomatic sources in the Western media reported that on February 25, the American and Russian delegations would meet again in Riyadh, which would be a "continuation" of the negotiations that officially began a week ago. The Kremlin stubbornly continued to deny the fact of the second meeting, claiming that such contacts were "not being prepared."
As reported by OBOZ.UA, experts from the Institute of War Studies emphasize that Russian dictator Putin remains uninterested in meaningful negotiations and believes that he can achieve his goals in the war against Ukraine. This is evidenced by the Kremlin's continued refusal to accept a ceasefire and other conditions that the United States and Europe have identified as necessary for a lasting peace.
