Mass media: Zelenskyi is going to attend Argentina's presidential inauguration
President Volodymyr Zelenskyi is likely to travel to Buenos Aires to personally attend the inauguration of his newly elected counterpart in Argentina, Javier Milea. The Ukrainian president was included in the guest list immediately upon organization, but at first it was doubtful that he would accept the invitation, given that his country is at war.
This was reported by the Argentine news agency TN30. Zelenskyi's arrival will send a clear political signal, as he has not been to Latin America since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.
The media also point to the importance of inviting the Ukrainian guarantor. Journalists see this as a turn from the intermediate position taken by the previous government.
"Zelenskyi's presence in Argentina will force security protocols to be strengthened, as he has been the target of several assassination attempts by Russia," the article says.
Among the presidents who have confirmed their attendance at the ceremony are Chilean President Gabriel Borich, Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou, King Felipe VI of Spain, Paraguayan President Santiago Peña, and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Israel will send its Foreign Minister Eli Cohen to the ceremony.
As a reminder, 53-year-old Javier Milei is a professor of macroeconomics, has worked at universities, private companies and government agencies in Argentina, and was a member of the lower house of parliament. He was extremely eccentric and harsh in his comments on the policies of Russia and China, expressing solidarity with Ukraine in its war against the invasion of dictatorship and terrorism.
As OBOZ.UA reported, after Milei won the election, President Zelenskyi had already spoken to him on the phone. He congratulated him on his election as Argentina's leader, and then the politicians discussed cooperation between the two countries in investigating Russian war crimes in Ukraine, bringing Moscow to justice, and the post-war recovery of our country.
