Ukraine's Interior Minister Andrii Sybiha has responded sharply to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's statement about the legitimacy of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The head of the ministry recalled how the Kremlin leader usurped power in the aggressor country by killing or imprisoning his opponents.

The Ukrainian minister wrote about this on his account on the social network X on Sunday, February 2. Sybiha emphasized that Putin's statements are lies intended to mislead foreign leaders and audiences.

He reminded that in the quarter-century of Putin's stay in the Kremlin, Ukraine has seen three presidents in fair elections; and US President Donald Trump returned for a second term after an impressive victory. This, the Foreign Minister emphasized, is democracy and legitimacy.

"Putin usurped power by tearing up the Russian constitution, killing or imprisoning opponents, destroying free media, organizing sham elections for himself, and staying in power longer than Stalin. Now this man is lecturing the world about legitimacy," the minister wrote.

According to him, the Russian dictator's statements are lies, he says this to mislead foreign leaders and audiences.

"Only fools can trust them. If anyone's legitimacy is in question, it is the legitimacy of the Moscow dictator, who creates cannon fodder from twenty-year-old men born when he was already in power," Sybiha added.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy himself has previously said that Putin does not want negotiations, so he will look for excuses and tell the story of "illegitimacy" to stall and try to avoid ending the war.

The Institute for the Study of War suggested that with such statements, Putin continues his attempts to force US President Donald Trump into bilateral talks on the war that exclude Ukraine. He wants to impose on him the framework of such a dialogue that the Kremlin needs.

As OBOZ.UA reported, in an interview with propagandists, Putin called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy "illegitimate." In this regard, he is not ready to sign a peace treaty with the head of our state.
