"You can't be lucky twice in a row": former Icelandic player predicts fiasco for the team in the match with Ukraine

Gunnlaugsson speaks about the match between Ukraine and Iceland

Former Icelandic national footballer Arnar Gunnlaugsson criticized the team for the semifinal playoff match against Israel in the Euro 2024 qualifiers. Despite the crushing 4-1 victory, the former Bolton and Leicester player noted that there were many mistakes in the game of his compatriots.

Gunnlaugsson expressed this opinion in a commentary to the mbl.is portal. According to the former Blues striker, who played on March 32, the Icelanders were largely lucky in the match on March 21, and the Ukrainian national team will punish them if gross mistakes are made again.

"I don't believe we can be lucky twice in a row. In the game against Israel, there were some things we got away with, but against a strong Ukrainian team, that's not going to happen. It was an emotional victory, and people often think that everything was amazing. If we play like that on Tuesday, things will go badly against Ukraine, believe me. There were a few things that worried me," Gunnlaugson said.

We will remind that the meeting between Ukraine and Iceland on March 26, in which a ticket to Euro 2024 will be drawn, will be hosted by the Tarczynski Arena stadium in Wroclaw. OBOZ.UA will provide an online broadcast of the Ukraine – Iceland match. The game starts at 21:45 Kyiv time. The teams have met each other four times. The rivals have one victory and two more meetings brought a draw.
