The terrorist country Russia commits war crimes against almost all Ukrainian prisoners of war. According to the UN, Russia has tortured 95% of captured Ukrainians.

The practice of torture in Russian prisons is widespread and systematic. This was stated by the head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, Danielle Bell, according to the Institute for the Study of War.

Russia tortured 95 percent of Ukrainian prisoners of war held in prisons. The UN also emphasized that the Russian authorities torture Ukrainian prisoners of war, starting from their first interrogations, and characterized the Russian practice of torturing Ukrainian prisoners of war as "widespread and systematic."

Bell noted that the torture of Ukrainian prisoners of war is a war crime. In particular, torture of a prisoner of war is a violation of Article 3 of the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

In addition, the deputy commander of a Ukrainian brigade reported on August 7 that the Russian authorities tortured and brutally murdered a Ukrainian prisoner of war who served in his brigade in a detention center in Rostov region.

ISW stated that Bell's statements and previous reports by the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine on Russia's violations of the rights of Ukrainian prisoners of war are consistent with long-standing assessments of Russia's systematic violations of international human rights and humanitarian law in the occupied territory of Ukraine and against Ukrainian prisoners of war.

As a reminder, the Russian military and law enforcement have one "favorite" type of torture against captured Ukrainians, and that is sexual crimes. They are difficult to document because many of the victims are men.

As OBOZ.UA reported, according to the OGP, the Russian occupiers executed at least 61 Ukrainian prisoners of war. In total, 2200 victims have been identified who suffered torture and inhuman treatment in Russian captivity.
