Which iPhones will be able to upgrade to iOS 19: insider data
Apple regularly updates the operating system for its smartphones to ensure that they meet the most up-to-date requirements. But it also restricts access to it for some older models.
And although the manufacturer has not yet announced the release of iOS version 19, iPhone Soft has already managed to learn the first details about it. In particular, we have received insider information about which iPhone and iPad models will not be compatible with it – their owners will remain at most under iOS 18.
Apple usually offers regular updates within a few years after the release of a model. Although the system warranty is currently 5 years, it often increases to 6 or 7 years. When iOS 17 replaced the iPhone X, iOS 18 updated the entire fleet of phones.
However, according to rumors, iOS 19 will not have any radically new features. Nevertheless, Apple will focus on the development of Apple Intelligence. Here are the models that will be compatible with this system:
- iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max (2025);
- iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max (2024);
- iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max (2023);
- iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max (2022);
- iPhone 13, 13 Mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max (2021);
- iPhone 12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max (2020);
- iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max (2019);
- iPhone XS / XS Max (2018);
- iPhone XR (2018);
- iPhone SE 4th generation (2025);
- iPhone SE 3rd generation (2022);
- iPhone SE 2nd generation (2020)
All smartphones on this list will be compatible with iOS 19, but not necessarily support all new features.
As for tablets, they are usually able to support new versions of the operating system for a longer time. For example, the iPad 5 is currently successfully supporting iPadOS 18. However, after the update to iOS 19, several tablet models will not have access to it. Thus, the A10 chip installed in the iPad 7 will become too weak for iPadOS 19. The same applies to the iPad Pro 2017.
To install the update, you will need a processor of at least A12 2025. Here are the models that will thus be compatible with iPadOS 19:
- iPad mini 5th generation or later;
- iPad 8th generation or later;
- iPad Air 3rd generation or later;
- iPad Pro 2018 or later.
